All new Wishbone in KK!

Had a quick dinner with buddies George, Jofanna and Anna-Rina and Sam at the all new Wishbone. Its been ages since Wishbone closed and was no longer at Jesselton Hotel. I used to go there way back when I was much younger just to enjoy the chicken rice. Still at Gaya Street, it has now reopened as a new outlet with a modern kopitiam look. The good news is the chicken rice is still very delicious and the outlet has a whole new menu now. I tried the much raved Milo Volcano that some of my friends recommended. Love it and very filling! Definitely gonna come back for a 2nd round to try out the other stuff in the menu.

movie review: Warrior

I am SO GLAD I watched this movie last night. Warrior is one of those underrated movies most people won't be that excited to watch because it has a hardly known cast and wasn't that fully marketed. The main reason I went to watch it was because I thought the trailer was good and I love mma(mixed martial arts) action. Comes the best part after somebody watches the movie... Warrior turns out to be above expectations and one of the best movies of the year.

This is not your simple cliche martial arts action movie, it is truly a movie that portrays the will and determination towards winning a goal. It also has the drama part of the movie showcasing how important family values are and how important those ties remain strong. The mma action was also great and nicely choreographed. Highly recommend my peeps at BJJ Borneo and Kinabalu Fighters to watch it! Makes me wanna go back learning BJJ again... Anyway, the start of the movie was a little slow but it contributes to the excellent buildup of the characters and mma action. All this leads to a heartwarming inspiring movie with a good dosage of mma action. I'm not gonna talk about the story and characters of the movie because if a movie is simply that good, I try not to spoil anything at all. Just go watch it. By the way, for you Batman fans out there, actor Tom Hardy who acts as Tommy Riordan is Bane in the next Dark Knight movie! - My Rating: 5/5

I had a more relaxed Saturday night last weekend and decided to go sleep early. The next Sunday I woke up in the morning to join my best buddies Aaron and Mei to check out Property Exhibition (PropEX) 2011 at Sabah Trade Centre. Pretty cool exhibition showcasing some really interesting commercial/resident properties for sale here in Sabah and even in KL.

Later in the evening, my daughter Hannah and I went for a road trip to Tuaran to attend George's daughter Eva's 2nd birthday dinner celebration. During the road trip, Hannah and I just simply talk about the scenery and about any topic under the sun. Some major quality time there. When I arrived at the dinner celebration, Hannah was already making her own way around mingling with the kids there. That is Hannah for you. :) I'm glad I attended Eva's birthday because I missed her previous birthday and one month celebration. George is another best buddy of mine and it means a lot for me to finally attend. The celebration went really well and I'm really happy for her daughter. Kid's birthdays are important to be celebrated with family and close ones. Hannah's 10th birthday is coming up in 2 months!

Finally I got the PS3!

Finally...

I talked about it for ages but I never got myself the PS3 gaming console until 2 months ago. One of the things that happened during the period when I stopped blogging for a while. Getting the PS3 is an interesting process. I was reluctant mainly because I wasn't sure about paying for something I hardly gonna spend time with. I mean if I get the PS3, I know I'll most likely only spend a mere hour with it at most before going to sleep. I'm not in that era anymore where I got so much time to spend on playing video games. But then it triggered me one day when I realized Hannah wants one too. She requested me to buy one so she can spend time at my home more and perhaps play some games with me.

Hannah is currently so in love with the game Little Big Planet 2.

With my buddy Rafi offering me a deal with a price tag I cannot resist, I finally bought one. So yeah, of course I'm happy I got one. I get to play games that I always just dream of and Hannah spends more time with me at home. Can''t go wrong with that.

Would be awesome to watch this again with the Blu-ray edition!

Heck, the PS3 is also a blu-ray disc player, which means movie buff me get to watch movies in high definition too. Simply bliss. It took a while for me to get the PS3 but never too late to own one. Hmm... What game should I play tonight...

The Sendai Project

"As the tsunami hits, 100 kids managed to run into a tsunami shelter. Although they are considered safe in a shelter designed to protect them from the tsunami, nothing prepared them for what came after. A ship carried by the tsunami simply rammed into the shelter that caused their deaths."

Cheyenne told this story that was told to him by one of the victims from the tsunami that hit Japan earlier this year. It broke my heart and I can't help automatically praying for the souls of those kids. It just exposed me more to the degree of pain and trauma of what the victims have experienced. At the same time it made me even more proud of my buddies Cheyenne and Sam who journeyed to Sendai, Japan to help with relief efforts. Their journey was part of a project called The Sendai Project. A one month project with the support of Japan International Food for the Hungry (JIFH) through a link with Food for the Hungry International Malaysia (FHIM) to help with the relief efforts in Sendai, Japan.

Cheyenne and Sam returned from Sendai last week and I attended their homecoming bbq dinner with other friends and supporters to their project. They briefed us with photos and videos of the experience they went through. There were some funny interesting moments of them trying to get use to the Japanese culture.

But more importantly was how everyone's eyes were open bigger to the ongoing progress in helping out the victims to continue & better their current lives and rebuild buildings to bring back towns back to life. It is still A LONG WAY TO GO.

KK early morning storm

the storm finally stopped around 6am...

Two days ago, I told myself I'll start blogging again. I thought I'll be blogging about something else first but I guess whatever happened earlier this morning had to be posted first. So what happened? Crazy ass storm all over KK. I woke up almost 5am this morning due to the heavy rain and wind knocking on my window. Lightning was going on non-stop. I took a peek outside my window but the weather was so crazy I can't see anything other than lightning. Didn't get to take a proper photo or video.

Talking about not seeing anything, there was a massive black out all over KK. How do I know that? The news about the storm was posted all over at facebook and twitter from the many people in KK who were awake at that time including me. It was the worst weather KK had for this year. Guess I'll have to check out the news later and hope nothing bad happened. Wishing everyone else in KK a good and safe day. Fingers crossed the storm won't come back.

Sunsets in KK - part 2

Two nights ago, I had a bad moment that dampened my mood yesterday. I didn't feel like myself and tried to kept myself busy by doing some random tasks. The only thing I look forward too yesterday was hitting the beach. I wanted to cool down and release my stress by playing Ultimate Frisbee with my buddies. The moment I was at Tanjung Aru beach, I was in for a treat. The beach was beautiful and so was the weather. Best of all, I experienced one of the most beautiful sunsets I have seen yet.

As I watched the sun goes down, I see the skies and clouds switching colors between red and blue as the sun illuminates them. Breathtaking... In that moment, everything just seems so peaceful inside. It was like the beautiful scene just tells me to chin up because everything is going to be alright.

I always make a point every year to bring my daughter Hannah to visit my good friend Honey Bee's Chinese New Year open house. We're always bound to have a great time with the good food, lion dances, chinese acrobat performance and fantastic fireworks show. I went there again last night and this time there was a special treat. Hannah and I got to watch LED lion and dragon dances! Still don't know what I'm talking about? Check out the videos below that I took last night.

Apparently it is somewhat a new trend to have these LED dances during Chinese New Year that just started here in Kota Kinabalu. Once again it was a blast at Honey Bee's house!

This photo was taken from my recent Ultimate Frisbee session at the beach. Me and the rest of the players were about to start the game when we saw those dark clouds coming to our way. Thinking positively, we stayed at the beach and started playing anyway. It never really rained and we ended up having a really good game.

I always believe that if we stay positive in the things we do, the dark clouds will go away and good things will happen. Of course, it doesn't always simply happen that way without some dedication and hard work. I kick started 2011 the way I wanted. Taking up new responsibilities, which means lots of work to do more than before. Last week I kinda overdid it and end up being diagnosed for over exhaustion. As I was telling others, I worked hard, played hard but hardly rested. Fell sick and had to take some strong medicines to knock me out at least for a day for some serious rest.

Now I am fully recovered but still with lots of work to do. After last week's experience, at least I have a better idea now on managing my time and health. Plus I got one major work done. Presenting...

... the February issue of Breeze magazine. It has been taking quite an amount of time but I'm proud to say this baby issue of mine is finally done with and will be available next Monday! I've been involved with Breeze for quite some time now. So some of you must be wondering why do I call the February issue a baby issue. Well, a new management took over end of last year and after some ups and downs, I got my shot at becoming more involved with the layout and content to produce a better issue. Hope you all get a copy and love it. *fingers crossed* Any comments is most welcome as I aim to produce better issues to keep readers happy.

Off to bed now and when I wake up, it will be another jam packed day. Hmm... Thinking of watching The Green Hornet after dinner.

Awesome engagement gifts!

Last Saturday I was assigned with 'The Men In Red' to carry engagement gifts for my buddy Julian who is getting engaged that night to another good friend of mine, Fara. A memorable night indeed as Julian & Fara took their relationship a level higher before they finally tie the knot soon. As 'The Men In Red' carried the gifts to Fara's house, I can't help noticing one particular gift. Actually it got noticed by quite a number of other people and most of us were stunned! Amongst all these so called for lady gifts, there was a brand new X-Box! Lucky Fara as she is a gamer too. After delivering Julian's gifts, I realized one of Fara's gifts to Julian was quite a stunner too. A brand new iPhone 4! Very, very lucky Julian. Wow... Are these the kind of gifts presented for engagement ceremonies nowadays? One thing is for sure they added an extra smile to an already very happy loving couple. Congratulations again to Julian & Fara! Both of you truly deserve each other. I am very proud to have the honor to be among 'The Men In Red'.

Blackberry addiction...

Even Barack Obama has one!

It is a whole new year and I want to start off with a blog post about what has been a constant part of my life since last year. The ever addictive Blackberry. I remember somewhat a year plus ago when I told off my buddies Sam Tan and Ron Lim to stop checking their Blackberry. They were being very anti-social by doing so in an outing among friends. Months after, someone else became anti-social. That is right. Yours truly, ME. I was so curious about the Blackberry and I needed a new phone. So I bought one and there was no turning back.

Hoping to get the Blackberry Torch this year!

I check my Blackberry for email, sms, facebook, instant messaging, etc almost every 10-15minutes! It is almost impossible not to keep doing that unless I fall asleep or busy doing sports. My work and personal life revolves around it. Oh Blackberry, what would I do without you... Even my daughter Hannah is hinting me to get one for her. Every time I hang out with her, she would borrow my Blackberry to play around with it. Anyway, I confess... I'm a Blackberry addict!

Trust Agent?

With Sam Tan of Core Fitness. Sam is a great young man with fantastic vision and ideas.

Two words that are likely to define me. It all started 3 years ago when I started to run a hotel called Imperial International Hotel, then be the coordinator for Sabahan Bloggers group and finally being part of Breeze magazine. This helped me to get to know a lot of people from different walks of life. Then I started to be more involved with collaborations with some of these people in the form of events and marketing. Though some people might think so, it is not entirely business for me. My main goal was to live up my passion to see others live up theirs and make the city I live in grow into something wonderful for everyone to be excited about. It is a long shot though. I can't do it alone and I am blessed to cross paths with some really amazing people that share the same goal as I do. Best of all, I get to be friends with these people and shared some really great moments with them.

My connections are growing each day and I realized people start coming to me to help them promote their business or cause. More than often, I usually get them connected with the right people that will suit their needs. I am always trying to make sure the people who approach me get what they want and reach their goal. At the end of the day, I am just really a friend who is there to help out. Yup, I became a middle person or the hook-up. But it was when I met Rob Angeles, I found the right words... Trust Agent.

Thanks to Daniel Doughty(another Trust Agent) from Borneo Colours, I managed to meet Rob Angeles of Social Media Philippines. A fantastic person with a big heart that has a great insight on the current social media scene. The three of us sat down for a drink one day and discussed about the current social media scene and how it works to benefit people. We all got to know each other better and Rob thinks I have a huge potential of becoming a good Trust Agent. See his comments here. He also recommended me to read this book called Trust Agents to further understand the term and discover how I go bigger than where I am now. I bought the book and still reading it at this moment. An eye opener indeed and I recommend it to anybody who shares the same goal as I do.

Sunsets in KK

There is something about sunsets in Kota Kinabalu or shall I say Sabah. I've seen sunsets in other places, but the ones in Sabah are always special. For me, watching sunsets here not only makes me more relaxed and calm, but sometimes also gets me in awe at how amazing they look. I also noticed the sunsets here look different almost every time you view them. For example, the sunsets are not just beautiful by looking at the sun directly but that amazing view when they are behind clouds. Check out these photos I took this year...

Last week has been incredibly physically and mentally exhausting for me with a pile of stress on top. I'm glad I have someone like Hime and friends by my side as a listener and supporter. It is also good to take some time out on the weekends and spend it with my daughter Hannah. Went to the saloon and played some Ultimate Frisbee with her. Here are some photos...

Didn't get to take any photos of her playing Ultimate Frisbee but I had a really good time playing with her. She is loving the sport now just like her dad. Overall a nice weekend with her that took my mind off a bit from all the stress that has been going on around me.

Air Conditioning: Love it or hate it?

In one whole 24 hours of a day in my life, I think I spend more than half of it in indoor air conditioned areas. My home, my working place, my car, outlets in malls and such, etc. Not really healthy right? I'm actually starting to feel the effects of it. Spend time in an air conditioned area long enough and I will start to feel discomfort in breathing. That is why nowadays, I make a point to go out for a walk or something and get some air or do some outdoor sports activity. But I can't deny the fact how good it is sometimes to be in an air conditioned area. Simply because how hot the weather can be out there. Kota Kinabalu city seems to be packing quite a heat during these past years. Which makes being in an air conditioned area, feels like heaven at times. So it is a toss off but I still prefer to be outdoors. Especially when there is a nice natural cool breeze. That beats air conditioning anytime!

The 2-0 win against Chelsea last Sunday was too sweet. And that 2nd goal by Torres is just awesome. After a disastrous start in the Premier League, Liverpool fought from the dead to start winning matches especially the big one against Chelsea. Congratulations Liverpool! A somewhat inspiration to myself after a not so good week that has gotten my mood down. Time to fight back!

Without my trusty Lumix LX3 camera, I'm down to my Blackberry Bold 9700 to take photos and videos for the much anticipated Hennessy Artistry at Whiteroom. So apologies in advance for the low quality of the photos you see in this post. Anyway, enough of my woo on my media gadgets. The most important thing is the first Hennessy Artistry at Whiteroom in Sabah or shall I say East Malaysia was a blast. I was one of the lucky bloggers from Sabahan Bloggers group that got the privilege to be invited to this exclusive event.

What I can say is being inside Whiteroom and experiencing the performance of Joe Flizzow, Sona One, DJ Siera Lee and DVJ G Mix coupled with great sound and lighting system was amazing. The artists delivered a really good show and crowd were busy partying the night away like there is no tomorrow. And I must say the Hennessy Artistry crew did an amazing job treating the bloggers nicely by providing any info required for the event plus helping us out to find good tables and seats. A shout out to Jason regarding this matter. Of course a really big shout out as well to Helenness who gave the opportunity to the bloggers to experience this event. Overall Hennessy Artistry rocks! Truly the best party event yet for the whole East Malaysia to experience.

online and real battles

Interesting Wednesday today. Topic related to battles. What kind of battles? Well to start it off, StarCraft 2. If you're a pc gamer for quite a number of years, you're likely to remember the game StarCraft, which was such a big hit worldwide. A game that consist of the human race, aliens experimental creatures battling each other. I remember the days when me and my friends played StarCraft on our own home pc or at internet/cyber centers. We would play for hours and hours.

So the past two days I heard so much about its sequel, StarCraft 2 from friends who still play pc games. Specifically and recently during my lunch session today. StarCraft 2 was actually released just yesterday. Almost every pc gamer around the world is either already playing it or ordered a copy.

If you're a parent to a son/daughter who plays pc games or has a friend that does, you're likely to see them play StarCraft 2. Or shall I say hardly see them as they engage themselves playing the game for hours especially online with the multiplayer mode. As for me, those days are gone as I can't afford to spend long hours on video games.

That was battle done on online. As for real life battles, I visited Kinabalu Fighter's dojo located somewhere near Seri Insan school. Kinabalu Fighter - http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=311009427882 is all about a place for all Martial Artist, Brawlers & Fight enthusiast to meet and share. My buddy Julian who happens to be a regular has been inviting me like forever to check out the dojo.

Finally tonight was the one fine night I accepted his invitation. I love martial arts. Took a bit of Kendo and Brazilian Jujitsu but kinda stopped a few years ago. The moment I entered the dojo, I was just in time to see some Muay Thai and grappling sparring sessions. It was great and kinda revived my interest to join back and learn martial arts again. But 'when' is still another issue...

Coz reality is I have my own battles to go through every single day. Major work and other personal issues to be solved. Battles to better myself everyday to achieve a better life. Nowadays, the battles are getting tougher and I don't really have much time for anything else except quality time with loved ones. Perhaps a little sports here and there for health's sake. I'm sure everyone else has their own battles. All the best. May we all succeed. :-)

I'm the one with the goalkeeper gloves. Maybe I get to play a different position this time...

Tomorrow morning I have to wake up early for a futsal tournament. Haven't been in one of these for ages. My dad used to be a state soccer player but I was no where as good as him. I do love soccer though, which is why futsal is the one of my favourite sports. Gosh, I don't even think I'm fit enough for the tournament tomorrow. But I'm sure I'll have a blast though. Itching to play in a tournament since all the commotion with the recent World Cup.

You'll never walk alone!

Besides playing, I also love to watch the English Premier League. The new season starts next month and I can't wait to see my favorite team Liverpool in action. Liverpool didn't really do good last season but I hope that is all gonna change for the better. Any other Liverpool fans out there? Please drop a comment. :-)

The weekend is near. I'm so exhausted. As I sit down and relax a bit, my mind wonders about whats been going in my life for the past week...

Wonderful Vimeo. I'm watching more and more videos on Vimeo now. Videos of all sorts of genre with most of them being very creative and inspirational. The latest one I watched was entitled Inspirational Artists: Pascal Campion. A great video about Pascal Campion who happens to be an amazing sketch artist.

Inception fever. I can't stop praising this movie that is currently showing in the cinemas. Everyone is talking about it and there is a reason why. Mind boggling, intriguing and simply movie of the year material. I won't spoil anything here. If you haven't watch it, DO SO! More on Inception here.

Birthday special. Planning properly for someone's birthday coming up next month. Not a simple task but it is going to be well worth it. All about putting a big smile on her face.

Eating spree. I've been eating like mad lately. Average of 4 meals per day. Am I gaining weight? Not really due to high metabolism. If there is any weight gained, it goes to the wrong area(aka TUMMY). I need to start going to gym again soon.

Non-stop rain. I blogged about it like a month ago. So there you go, it is still raining every single day here in Kota Kinabalu city. Honestly I don't mind the rain but lately it has been depressing. Especially when quite a number of my sport activities are canceled due to the rain.

Work stress. It has been stressful at work. Problems pop out here and there with some serious decision making to be done. Keeping a strong and cool head as much as I can. It helps to think about my loved ones as one of the reasons why I'm working. Its 10.20pm. Half an hour from now after this blog post, there is still work to be done during this late night. Plus, I'm missing someone already.

Facebook. Who hasn't heard it? It is almost impossible that anyone hasn't. Someone or somebody in this world is bound to have a Facebook account. It is a great way to communicate and be up to date with your friends, family, celebrities, products and such. For now, one of the biggest issue hitting the US and other countries is user privacy in Facebook. Basically Facebook is being blamed for all the problems users are facing for having their privacy violated when their personal info are exposed.

As much as we all might love Facebook, not all of us are that keen to have our personal info to be known to everyone in the world. But really, if we use Facebook long enough, there are settings for you to tamper to prevent your personal info from being known to certain individuals. And if that is not good enough, easy... Don't bother to open an account or simply delete it if you already have one. There is also of course, terms and policies in Fcebook for you to read and understand before you share your personal info. So as Facebook gets sued or complained about user privacy, don't you think we probably got ourselves to blame? Hmm...

Who is Janet Hsieh? For those who watch Discovery Travel and Living, she is that fun loving and down to earth host for Fun Taiwan. I first noticed her when I watched the Fun Taiwan show earlier this year. I'm not a regular for Discovery Travel and Living but I have to admit that I enjoy watching her show when it is on tv. She has a great natural on-screen presence that makes her a joy to watch in Fun Taiwan. So why am I blogging about her? Well, I never thought in a million years, I would have a chance to meet Janet in person. But I did!

Due to work, I was recently presented with the opportunity to met her and the rest of the Fun Taiwan crew. We all had dinner together last week and I had a great time getting to know Janet and her crew. Apparently they are here in Sabah to do a shoot for their new Fun Asia show. That is right. Sabah will be featured! After Sabah, they'll be heading to Sarawak. While they were in Sabah, it was strictly all work and they prefer not to have the attention of the media. That is why I am only blogging this post after they left for Kuching last Sunday.

A woman of many talents, Janet has exactly the same fun loving and down to earth character as you see her on-screen. We had a good conversation and laugh almost about any topic under the sun throught the whole dinner. Its like talking to a really good friend. The crew and her really liked Sabah and they plan to come here again in the future to shoot at other locations they haven't been. Overall it was truly a great experience meeting Janet in person. Bento perfection?

After days being away in KL for work, Hime came back to present to me this case. I've been missing her a lot. She has been quite busy in KL and we didn't get to communicate much. So I get a little restless sometimes wondering if she is ok or not. But that is pretty much about it and I'm just really glad to see her again. Now I'm wondering what is inside this case...

So I opened the case and I discovered what seemed to be Hime's version of a bento meal made for me. In moments I find myself in the presence of an array of yakitori beef, japanese style egg and grill salmon coupled with a portion of rice. The smell of all these food simply activated my hunger big time. The taste? I'm not good at describing taste but the beef was deliciously tender and mixes well with the egg and salmon that somehow melts nicely in my mouth. It was the best bento meal I ever tasted in my life. PERFECTION... I ended up with a very, very satisfied stomach.

With an awesome meal like that, I can only feel like the luckiest man to have a woman that can cook that good. :-)

It was raining heavily every day weeks ago and the weather was gloomy. That kinda stop but the rain still comes every now and then. But who are we to complain. The rain water crops, gives us a nice cozy sleep at home and even helps to clean our car a bit. Speaking of cleaning cars, I don't know if it is just me but isn't it ironic that most of the time after I sent my car for a car wash, it rains? Anyway, I'm blogging about the rain now after viewing back the video of Singing In The Rain by Gene Kelly. Can't go wrong with a classic like this that cheers up your day especially in the rain. If you view the video, you'll know why this guy is so happy singing in the rain.

beginning Salsa

After months of avoiding due to busy schedule and merely craving looking at others do it, I finally took a Salsa dance class. It was just me and Hime yesterday as we took our first couple class at the Dance Academy studio in Damai. It was good to see dance instructor Arwin again. I took a small Salsa introduction class from him before and was impressed. That was months ago and I never really took proper classes with him despite his recommendation. Anyway, my first class yesterday was good. It was an hour of doing basic steps that looks easy but requires quite a lot of practice. Hime enjoyed it too and we actually practiced a bit late last night on our own. Can't wait for the next class.

So it continues to rain and rain in KK... I love a cloudy or rainy day but not when there is too much of it. I've been missing out quite a bunch of activities because of the recent rain galore.

Spain lost their first match against Switzerland in the World Cup 2010. Major bummer... I hope they bounce back.

I'm away from KK for the weekend to spend quality time with Hannah. While I'm away, Happy Father's Day to those who celebrate...

Believe it or not, I grew up as a kid/teenager with very little social life. I was the nerdy shy quiet kid. I grew up reading a lot of books and other than school, life was pretty much just at home. Television, books and video games were my best friends. You can only imagine my excitement when my parents would ask me to join them for shopping, dining at a restaurant, etc. Yes, I am that excited. It is like a chance to go out from prison and see the world. Sure I got some good friends to hang out with but I didn't get to go out with them to have a meal somewhere, catch a movie, etc. I am pretty much your home boy. Lonely with hardly any social life. My life was hardly colorful.

Don't even go to the topic of girls as I had no girlfriends during this period. I was way too shy to approach girls and I'm not Mr. Popular. Well, I am popular but in a different way. Dinosaur, Bangau, Bamboo Stick etc. Yup, all sorts of names I was called. A little emo during this time as I also went through an emotional breakdown before on hardly being accepted as a good friend other than being made fun of. Try getting a plain old stone as a birthday gift by a bunch of girls at school. My first birthday gift ever. How heart crushing... At that point I really thought I wasn't social enough to be accepted among others and pretty much thought that is the end of my social life.

So should I blame my parents? They were the ones who kept me at home and wanted me to only study hard. Nah... I might have my moments grunting about my little social life. But the truth of the matter is I grew up just fine. It is true what people say, all you need is just your loved ones by your side. My friends maybe few but I had a blast with them one way or the other and they're always by my side. My parents might be a bit strict but they really gave me a lot of love. And of course my little bro Anizan who was fun to hang out with.

Perhaps one of the most valuable lesson in life is... towards the end, in order to live a good life, all you really need is your good self and your loved ones.

Damn you Plants vs Zombies...

Remember this game anyone?

I've always been a video gamer since I was a kid. Arcade, playstation, pc, etc... Played games in all sorts of platforms. During my teenage years and early 20s, I was quite hardcore playing certain pc games up to 2am-4am. Sometimes no sleep at all. It has been while... a looong while since that happened... With a business to run and loved ones to care about, I don't get that much luxury to play video games anymore. I rather go outside and do some exercise when I got the free time.

CAUTION: It may not look like it, but this is a VERY ADDICTIVE game.

But this game called Plants vs Zombies... After months hearing about it and ignoring to play it, I finally played it last week during late night hours. Why in the world I want to play a game about plants trying to kill zombies? I was just damn curious and the gamer inside of me had to find out how good is good. Apparently Plants vs Zombies was...

...nominated for the "Casual Game of the Year" and "Outstanding Achievement in Game Design" Interactive Achievement Awards from the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences. Also nominated for "Best Game Design", "Innovation", and "Best Download Game" for the Game Developers Choice Awards. Plus it was picked by Gamezebo as one of the 'Best games of 2009'.

Yup. This cute little game was actually ranked against the best games out there that had far superiors graphics and took years to make. So after spending many late hours for the past few nights to finish the game, I now know why just like the millions of people around the world who are playing it too. Want to know why too? And so the FIFA World Cup 2010 at South Africa has started. Football fans around the world are busy supporting their teams to win this ever so prestigious tournament. For me, I've always supported Argentina and Italy in the past. I'm still supporting Argentina but I have to say if there is one team I want to see to win the World Cup 2010, it would be Spain. I've always consider them to be a good team and slowly got more and more interested looking at their progress. The team is currently just perfect in almost every way. Fascinated by their much improved style of play, I seriously think the reigning European Cup champions and ranked no.2 in the world has all that it takes to win.

Would you want this to be in KK?

Every now and then, my mind will spark an idea to start up a new business here in good ol' Kota Kinabalu city. Dreams of opening my very own Chili's, Kinokinuya bookstore, underwater world aquarium, etc. Bringing a bit of class and variety to the city. Others will have their own sparks too and come up with these fantastic ideas for cool new business ventures. Like the others though, there is a certain fear within me. Will the business succeed? I always thought of last year as the 'Kedai Kopi year' for Kota Kinabalu. This year might just be the same. Heck, there is even so many new coffee shops in KK now! Why Kedai Kopi year? Spending power. There is not enough middle class and above people to sustain most middle class and above businesses. On the other side, there is always more than enough to sustain and even make a small business like running a coffee shop successful.

It happens...

I'm sure you've seen them. Some branded shops or classy looking restaurants, most of the time almost or totally empty. Outlets that originally opened to bring something different and be the buzz of the town with customers flowing in. Always with a promising start but a start is what they only had that was bright. Some managed to survive somehow and some closed down.

Unfortunately too pricey...

Given a choice to open a kopitiam or Carls Jr, which one will you pick? Kopitiam would be the wise choice. Sorry Carls Jr, its not that we doubt the quality of your product. Most people here just prefer the cheaper alternative. While a kopitiam might have a lesser profit margin, it has a higher success rate to break-even as fast as 3 months or at least less than a year. Not the same with Carls Jr. There will be regulars who can afford the menu coming to Carls Jr, but from what I've seen with other shops of similar class, there is just not enough out there to sustain the business.

Pricey but lots of people will go and spend!

But who I am to say? As fearful as myself and others can be, it doesn't mean the ideas we had in mind are not impossible to be a success. Sometimes we just have to take the risk. Not enough middle class and above with spending power? Little Italy restaurant down at the city center is almost packed every night even during lunch hours. Customers here spend at least RM30 for a session of food and drinks. Nandos might actually work in KK. People here just love chicken. From something as affordable as 5 star chicken outlets to The Chicken Rice Shop to the beloved KFC, these places always have a very good daily traffic of customers. Oh, and not to forget, japanese food outlets. Nuff said.

Hard to go wrong with chicken.

So is 2010 still can be considered a kedai kopi year? Here is my take. It is not that we don't have enough middle class and above spenders here in KK. It is all about what kind of business that we plan to open. What is big among these people? Something different is good but has to be somewhat at least a high potential sure fire hit too. Something what most people here love. Did I mention Nandos? There is no portugese chicken outlet around and people here love chicken. You want an existing example of such a case? Suria shopping mall's GSC cinema. Quite a success so far. RM15 per ticket and yet lots of people are flocking in to watch the likes of SHREK 3D and Avatar 3D. If it didn't exist, why would it be a very good idea to open it? There is no other 3D cinema around and people here love watching movies in this cinema. Remember, 'different' and 'what most people love'.

The topic I'm touching here has more issues than what I just mentioned to be considered. I'm not always right and you are most welcome to comment this post with your own opinions. Always open to different views.

The video makes a whole lot of sense to me. I spend more time on the web nowadays. Not so dedicated to watching tv channels as I used to way back. Almost everything including tv shows are on the web now anyway. Watching tv will simply be a whole new experience for everyone soon...

Malaysia Ultimate Open 2010 - We did it!

It all comes down to this. After two years of playing Ultimate Frisbee, I finally joined the MUO. MUO aka Malaysia Ultimate Open was the one tournament that I dreamed of joining. But I wasn't 100% prepared. So were most of my Borneo Bristlehead team mates. We were busy adults with very few free time. Our strong passion for the game and Sabah however is always there. We were ready to play our hearts out. Next thing you know, our squad of unique individuals arrived at KL last week for the Ultimate showdown during the weekend.

So there we were competing ourselves against teams from Singapore and Thailand. After a grueling two days under the hot sun, Borneo Bristleheads managed 16th place out of 20 teams with 3 wins out of 7 games. Although this might not seem much, the result is a fantastic achievement for the team. For the past two years, the team has never won a single game in the MUO. Finally we are really noticed with the teams from Singapore and Thailand giving some new found respect for the team from Sabah. Overall, the tournament was a fantastic experience filled with great people, great atmosphere and great Ultimate.

Now back at home, I can't help smiling and felt proud to be part of a team that made 'a change'. Since the good performance at Inti-Taylor's Open Ultimate Frisbee tournament last year, I always believed the Borneo Bristleheads will make a difference in this year's MUO. I'm so glad I was right. So where do we go from here? Hopefully more players and better results in other tournaments to come.

quick Penang trip

With a day free before the Malaysia Ultimate Open tournament(more on this in my next post), I traveled to the state of Pulau Pinang for the first time. Hometown to Hime's good friend Cheng Cheng, I went there with Hime and her two good friends Shaun and of course Cheng Cheng herself.

Known primarily for the good food, that is exactly what I got to experience there. Simply delicious. especially the fried kuay teow and asam laksa. Wish I could stayed longer since this was more of a quick one night stay trip. Definitely looking forward to another visit.

Take a look at the photo and you know what I mean. Can't help taking this photo(click for enlarged version) as I was driving back to my office. Look close enough and you pretty much can see the yellow Digi man sitting on top right above the Digi office at Warisan Square building. Look even closer and you'll notice there is something else it is sitting above. That is right, the Maxis office on the ground floor. Nuff said. :-)

Turning 9 this year and equipped with a handphone plus the ability to style her looks on her own, Hannah is looking more and more like an adult each day. I even see little boys turning their heads to catch a glimpse of her. Earlier on, I thought of investing a shotgun to filter out the bad boys. The number of boys might grow... Machine gun? Grenade? haha... :-) Honestly really, the dad just want her to grow up to be a fine successful woman.

Go Green! ...and Go Power Rangers?

I guess the Go Green campaign is getting bigger and bigger. Yesterday I went to Shangrila Tanjung Aru Resort to check out a brunch event to promote their new Go Green campaign. The event talks about replacing their plastic bottle with glass ones, planting vegetables in their garden area, etc. Not sure how effective this will turn out to be but commendable efforts indeed. I even heard Hyatt Hotel is going to invest on a whole farm for vegetables. During my recent trip to KL, certain shopping outlets demands you to pay RM0.20 for a plastic bag unless you bring your own. I hope I can apply some Go Green initiatives to my working establishment too. Personally, I just hope Go Green will be applied by everyone around the world. Nothing wrong even with a tiny effort to make the world a better place.

Lets switch the topic from Go Green to Go Power Rangers! After brunch, I was at the MAS ticketing office to adjust the dates for my flight ticket. While I was attended, I can't help listening to a familiar tune somewhat blasting away in the office. It was the Power Rangers theme song! A shock indeed. I haven't heard that theme for ages. Not sure whether the music was playing from a staff or customer. Just felt awkward listening to it in a MAS ticketing office.

best April so far

While April kicks off with April's Fool day where many might be tricked or punked, my April started out pretty good. In fact, the past week has already made this April the best one I had in my life so far. All this because of Hime. Heres what happened...

Hime bought for me a brand new wallet and cufflings. Really put a smile on my face. :-) Been wanting them for quite some time.

More new items. I've got myself a new pair of glasses. What a relief for my vision. My previous one wasn't taken care properly(i am guilty as charged!) and was full of scratches.

Spent good times with Hime at eateries, shopping around and watching Clash Of The Titans(good movie!) at the cinema. Also had a nice time hanging out with CC Tan, her bro, Shaun and Cheryl.

Hope the rest of April continues to be this good. As some of you might noticed, I'm starting to mention Hime more in my blog. Other than work and Hannah, most of my time is spent with her. Quality time is very important for us. Being with her is life changing for the better and I'm happy. I couldn't ask for another person to be part of my life. She is a gem and as mentioned before, I have future plans with her. Ending this post with a song from Hime by Leona Lewis.

I love Blackberry. Ever since owning a Curve 8520 last year, I felt that I finally own a phone that I truly love. But to my horror, I accidentally lost the Curve 8520 last December and has since got myself a Blackberry phone due to budget issues. Now I got a chance to get myself a new one in the form of a Bold 9700. Currently the best Blackberry phone out there, I'm really hoping to own this. Some friends are asking me to get a Nokia e72, Samsung Omnia 2/Jet and of course, the much popular iPhone instead. It is just hard for me to resist having a Blackberry...

couch potato night

One of the things Hime and I enjoy doing as a couple is spending the night together on the couch watching tv. Recently we did just that. But Hime wanted to make it a little bit more special by cooking dinner for us to eat while doing our favorite activity.

So we went off to the supermarket earlier on to shop for ingredients. Then its pretty much the kitchen all the way. Can't help taking some photos. This is the first time I see her cook. I must say shes good at it. By the time dinner is ready, we ended up having a delicious dinner while watching How I Met your Mother(highly recommended!) season one.

What can I say, I'm lucky to have her as a good cook. Love you Hime.

Haven't been blogging for quite some time. Hope everyone is in good health. Here is a quick look on what I have been busy with...

Work has been quite a bit of a challenge lately. Certain situations has required me to do some necessary brainstorming and decision making. Recent results has shown that situation has started to improve. Gotta make sure it keeps up.

I was part of the organizing committee and participants for the first ever Ultimate Frisbee Headhunters Hat tournament in Sabah. Don't know what the tournament is about? Read all about it here.

Haven't been blogging for quite a number of days now. Been taking day offs since the 14th of February. Had an awesome Valentine followed by good times with friends and loved ones. This is one week I won't forget. More importantly because of the time spent with Hime. Some really interesting events will be coming up in my life soon. :-)

In less than 2 hours, it will be Chinese New Year and Valentine's Day. Gong Hei Fatt Choi to you love. Seems like cny is a bit more happening than last year. I can even see beautiful fireworks outside through the glass window. Wish I can watch it with you. At this moment, I'm sure you're busy at work. I hope all goes well on your side tonight.

Hours earlier I had another swimming session with Hannah. Today I outdid myself and swam further than I did before. A few more weeks max, I think I can swim all the way to the other end of the pool. Yet, I still can't float... haha You were my inspiration today to be better at swimming. In fact, you are my inspiration in everything I do. Because of you, my life now has taken a direction that pushes to me rise above myself more than I ever did before.

The sun will rise tomorrow and I'll be seeing you then. While most people I know are busy with Chinese New Year, I'll be all about Valentine's Day. Last year I never really did celebrate. This year will be special. As I said, you inspire me to rise above myself. Tomorrow's Valentine's Day will be an experience that the previous ones are no where near to compare.

Image 1 is about a business meeting I had that led into a nice half an hour conversation about deep sea fishing. Yes, go figure. Image 2... swimming with Hannah

I've been learning how to swim for 2 weeks now. Special thanks to Aaron, Beverly and Soh for accompanying and coaching me for the past few sessions. Currently I can swim quite a bit but still unable to float..

Recent session on Wednesday was a special one as it was with my daughter Hannah. I know it is gonna be fun and a challenge to my ego as well. You see, Hannah is a really good swimmer and she likes to show off to me her skills. Where my ego comes in is when she challenged me for a race. She beat me in the first race and made fun of me. I took it in a good a way as extra determination to better myself. But I guess it is tough when she beat me 5 times in a row. haha... Nevertheless, I had lots of fun with Hannah and I found out she is an amazingly good coach too. Taught me a bit about floating and paddling.

After the swimming session, Hannah and myself along with Beverly and Soh went to Hana Japanese restaurant at City Mall. Fun session there and everyone had a satisfying meal. Overall I'm very happy with my quality time spent with Hannah. Kinda embarrassing for me to have her beat and coach me in swimming. Better late than never. Beat her next time... Hmm...

p/s: I have to be good in swimming by March to win a bet. :-)

portrait photo shoot at Jofanna Bridal - As a so called birthday gift, my buddy and uprising wedding photographer George Yong decided to give me a free portrait photo shoot session. The session was held last month and I had lots of fun. You'll see some of these photos in some online projects I'm doing this month.

November 2009 photo shoot for Elysium - photos from a special photo shoot in conjunction with the launching of Elysium Club in KL last December. I was the coordinator for this shoot.

Think of a laptop size iPhone/iPod Touch. I do mean that literally! With a starting price at $499, this gem of a product is a VERY TEMPTING buy. Check out the video below to see the iPad in action.

So I was checking out this funny video about crying by actor/comedian Dane Cook. It occur to me that it is true people have these moments in their lives where they just suddenly breakdown and cry. Been there? I've been there. I have to agree with Dane Cook that it is a tough world out there and sometimes, just sometimes... there is so much burden or weight we can take that sooner or later, we're just gonna breakdown and cry.

I've said before and I'll say it again, I miss shooting and producing videos. It will be a while though when I get the chance again. I'm so tied up with many things and if I were to start this passion of mine again, I'm aiming to get this first...

Anyhow, it will be quite some time before I get my hands on that. Till then, I'll just look back at the old videos I produced.

One of them is the Marie Digby's Say It Again music video that I made while shooting her live performance in Kuala Lumpur two years ago. Got good comments across YouTube, Vimeo and Facebook for it till this day. Not awesome like the official but a good start for a total beginner. Those were the days.

KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) - Police stepped up security after the United States Embassy in Malaysia warned on Friday that criminal and terrorist groups were planning attacks against foreigners in the Borneo island state of Sabah.

A "warden notice" posted on the embassy's website (malaysia.usembassy.gov/), dated Friday, said resorts located in isolated areas of eastern Sabah, a state bordering the southern Philippines, were of "present concern."

It identified areas of eastern Sabah including Semporna and the islands of Mabul and Sipadan, as well as travel to and from the area.

The warning said there were indications criminal and terrorist groups "are planning or intend acts violence against foreigners," notwithstanding the Malaysian government's ability to detect and prevent such attacks.

"Please avoid or use extreme caution in connection with any travel in these areas or locations," it said.

The state's island resorts are popular with tourists.

The warden notice said the Philippines-based, al Qaeda-linked Abu Sayyaf militant group had kidnapped foreigners in eastern Sabah in the past. Criminal elements were also responsible for kidnapping and piracy, it said.

Malaysia's deputy police chief, Ismail Omar, said his officers were taking all necessary steps.

"I have alerted all my officers in Sabah to boost security at all these places," he told Reuters.

A U.S. embassy spokesman in Kuala Lumpur said such statements were issued periodically and the latest warning was posted "to enable people to make informed decisions about their security."

The spokesman said there was a possibility the warning would be upgraded into an official travel advisory that would be issued by the U.S. State Department.

The Abu Sayyaf, known for kidnapping and beheading hostages, was nearly eliminated after the death of its founder and leader, Abdurajak Abubakar Janjalani, in the late 1990s.

It sprang back to life when about 20 Malaysian and Western tourists were kidnapped on Sipadan island in 2000. Analysts have said that proceeds from kidnappings may revive the small but deadly group.

Doesn't sound good. Hope and prayers nothing bad happens.

Past 3 days have been quite tiring with a full scale of activities. But its all good as my life is all about making a better stand and still have a good time as well. Work has been a bit of a headache. Other than that I've been occupying myself with the following...

- Breeze Mag. I'll be working closely with this magazine. You might just see my photo next month in the magazine to get a better picture of what I've been working on.

- My own small business. Thats right. Just waiting for green light from main partners and I'm pretty much on my way to owning a small business that I'm very excited about.

- Photo shoot. Did a photo shoot at Jofanna Bridal recently. The photos will be used for an experiment I'm doing next month.

That is all I'm gonna say for now as presently is merely the period I just cross my fingers and pray everything I've been working on will be unveiled successfully.

So I was never really blessed with music talent. Or shall I say, I haven't really been taking lessons to find out. Perhaps the only instrument I ever laid my hands on and was somewhat good at it was the recorder. That was way ages ago. Could have taken a piano lesson and did a little bit of guitar but none of them ever really took off. Hmm... I think I should make a point to learn an instrument this year. I wonder when... Probably just end up with an ukelele when I'm old like the picture above. And speaking of ukelele, here is a video to kick off everyone's first Monday of the year.

People Who Matters, What 2009 Has Meant For Me

2010 is fast approaching. Deep breath... I'm in a long thought of what has gone through in my life since the beginning of this year. The last time I was in this thought was just before my birthday on September. I talked about how I achieved quite a number of things during 2009. Business, entertainment, sports, personal improvement and so much more. Only a certain bunch have seen me go through my achievements and this same bunch as well saw the pain and heartaches that went along with it. I owe it to this bunch. They are people who matters to me.

I am not perfect, so are you and these people as well. Even so, these are the people with the character and personality that changed my life for the better. To be where I am now is not possible without them. Some things in life especially the big ones, we can't do it alone. But to have them help me in the first place is for me not think about myself and for me be there for them sincerely. Not many out there understand this as the world we live in is plagued by those we can't trust plus the deception of money and power. So for what its worth, for you people who matters to me, thank you so much. You have no idea how much I appreciate you and will be there for you too.

Then there are those who are very dear and precious to me. Without a doubt, one of them is my daughter. My parents... And another who doesn't require mentioning. These are the ones I would do more than just to rise above to ensure the goodness of their well being. Straight from the heart and nothing more. If they're happy, I'm happy. They're my love and joy. I care for them a great deal.

Another deep breath... Happy New Year in advance to all of you. There are many more for me to achieve in this life and I'm sure for you too. Remember... Whatever it is, don't forget those who stand by your side no matter what. They are the people who matters. They are the ones who really care for you and appreciate you for who you are.

I always wanted to learn how to dance. Last month I had the chance to join a salsa class, which I turned down for mandarin class. Regretted the decision because the mandarin class never took off due to lack of students. But I have paid... :-S Anyway, tonight I'm part of the crew taking care of the A Night Of Salsa event. Its tonight so I urge you people out there to come and attend if you're up for some dancing. Don't worry about being a beginner because there will be dancers around to teach you basics. Perro Loco just opened today and I came by for lunch to support the opening. The place is opened by the sister of my good friend Rainer and her husband. Overall Perro Loco has a nice simple environment with a South American feel and yes the food is excellent! Assaults on cars in KK!

Sometime around 8pm yesterday, I received a phone call from my friend who just told me his car got attacked by three guys at the pedestrian crossing between the bus station and Wawasan Plaza. My friend with 3 passengers was stopping for the red light at that time when his car window was smashed and the rest of the car was constantly kicked and punched. Luckily right after the car's window was smashed, the traffic light turned green and he managed to drive away. Thank god no one got any serious injury. Police report was made and it turned out 2 other cars were attacked as well around the same time. One was at Api Api and the other at Wawasan Plaza. So the attackers who were suspected high on drugs were making their way from Api Api to the bus station and attacked the cars along their path. This incident is a real shocker for me. All happened around 7pm along public areas. People in KK do be careful out there on the road. Please lock your car when you're inside. Hope those attackers get caught!

Australia Red Haze!

Remember KK had a haze problem like a month back? Well I just saw the news in BBC today and apparently Sydney is now red like the whole place is on Mars! Apparently this is caused by a dust storm that is creating a red haze. Check out the following video taken by one of the citizens.

So I'm 32 now. How did I celebrate my birthday recently on the 17th? Just keep it plain and simple by holding a barbeque & potluck session with friends and loved ones at my good old house number 23. Fantastic night that ended up fun and crazy.

Less than 24 hours...

... and I'll be... yeah, a year older. So am I nervous? Do I feel old? Nah. I achieved more than I ever could at my age now than at least the last 5 years of my life. Looking forward to achieve more with the coming new age. Can't type much now. Busy preparing the house for a get together session with friends and loved ones tomorrow night. with my Ultimate Frisbee mates in KL two months ago

KL/Singapore trip - Just two days away from my holiday. Yes, I'm finally having a real holiday. Unfortunately not anyway far and exotic. Just same ol' KL and Singapore. But instead of a course or tournament, this time I'm just there to purely enjoy myself and have a good time.

KK Improv - Yesterday, the KK Improv team did our 5th Improv workshop. So proud to be in this team and we had such a great time yesterday with the 15 people who attended. Those who joined the workshop were from all walks of life and ended having so much fun & laughter together. The video above is a teaser of what we went through yesterday. Can't wait for the 6th workshop in October!

Canon HV30 - I was watching this beautiful video called Blue, which was shot using a Canon HV30. I can't help missing having this video cam in my hands. At one point, I was really into learning about video shooting and editing. The HV30 didn't even last a year in my possession due to an accident. It died along with my dedication to be a videographer. Now I'm just left with a dream that I will have to live up on another day.

Birthday - Its getting really close now and I can't help looking back at the joy & happiness and the pain & heartaches I went through since my last one. One thing that I learned a great deal after all the experience is for me to LIVE LIFE.

Doulos

Yesterday I spent a whole day off with Hannah. The highlight would be us visiting the Doulos ship for the first time. Doulos is famous for it's onboard book fair. Every now and then the ship will stop by Kota Kinabalu. For like at least the previous 10 years, I have never visited the Doulos. So it was a great experience especially since its Hannah's first time as well. Great crew and quite a handful of books to look at. Had a slight frustration though coz I forgot to bring my camera. So all I have is a postcard that I took a picture of with my hands and Hannah's holding it as our special memory together. Quality time well spent. :-)

Around 2 weeks earlier, I was involved in a photo shoot with the Sabah Bloggers Gathering 2009 committee. The shoot was for promotional purposes for the upcoming event in October. I personally enjoyed it because it was my first one in a studio and had lots of fun with the committee crew. Special thanks to George Yong from Jofanna Bridal for making this possible. So little time...

After like a month, I'm finally back at the blogging scene. In that one month, I find myself more occupied than ever before. Too many activities in my life has got me into having very little sleep. It went that bad until I was diagnosed by the doctor for over exhaustion and stress. This was two weeks ago by the way. Since then, I've been trying to cut down my activities but its never that easy. You peeps know the feeling 'once you're done with 1 task, 3 more comes in.'? But I'm better now. I find myself more in control of myself and getting better at time management. As you can see, I'm blogging now right? :-) So what in the world I have been so busy about? Too many to mention and yes, so little time. Will blog about it one at a time. For now, I'm just glad to be back at the blogging scene.

Here i am in my office looking through my huge amount of emails, making and receiving calls and thinking what I'm gonna blog about next. A typical busy day. And yup, I always try to make a point to squeeze in some precious time for myself to blog. Personal time just for me that I find myself struggling for all the time.

So today I wanted to blog about paintball but as I looked through my emails, I found one really interesting email. Sent by my friend Valerie Tai from Sarawak, the content of the email was a video of an inspirational speech given by a doctor that recently passed away. The speech was given months before his death. I urge you all to view this video now.

Inspiring isn't it? Certainly made my day.

the ULTIMATE experience

Last weekend was one of the most memorable weekend of my life. Full of excitement and misfortunes. :-) As you probably know from my previous post, I left to Nilai last weekend to join the Inti-Taylor's Open Ultimate Frisbee tournament. I reached Nilai last Friday night only to end up with my team mates at the wrong hotel(&%@#$! taxi driver) and we had to walk a few hundred meters to the actual one. Nilai Hotel is probably the easiest and yet the hardest hotel to find at the same time. Go figure. But this didn't dampened Borneo Bristleheads team spirit and we were pumped up for the tournament the next day.

The day after was nerve wrecking and yet exciting too. This was my first ever Ultimate Frisbee tournament. It was held at Inti College's sports field at Nilai. The atmosphere was great. Most of the tournament players are high school/college/university students. Met quite a bunch of players that were friendly. The Borneo Bristleheads on the other hand is an underdog team of a ragtag bunch of players of different size and age from all walks of life. After enduring a whole day session of intense games under the grueling hot sun and sometimes strong wind that affected the player's throws, the Borneo Bristleheads can finally took a breather and be proud of ourselves. It took us 5 well fought games of 4 wins and 1 lost to claim the title of pool B/division 2 champions with an overall place of 5th out of 12 teams. Our only loss was to the overall champion The Lions. This was Borneo Bristleheads best ever performance that made my senior team mates and our captain Ken Kassem really proud. Our team certainly made an impact in the Malaysian Ultimate Frisbee scene as a team not to be taken for granted. Certainly not an underdog anymore. We rocked!

Tournament ended during the late evening and myself with a few other team mates were ready to move to Replica Inn in KL. We were to join up with the rest of the team mates in KL for dinner and then celebrate our team performance in a club. But my team mates and I arrived at Replica Inn only to discover our room bookings were mistakenly canceled(@#$^*! staff) and there were no more rooms available. Bummer... We had to move up and down the street browsing through at least 4 hotels before finally found one that has vacancy. At this point, we quickly took our shower and just look forward to party the night away. Thats exactly what happened as our team partied at Quattro and had a good time. As everyone went home after, the taxi I was in broke down midway back to the hotel. Talk about bad luck huh? Luckily after 5 minutes of pushing the taxi in the middle of a big traffic jam, the taxi was fine again and I safely went back to my hotel.

Woke up to a beautiful Sunday and spent some time hanging out with the some of my team mates. Returned back to KK that night and it feels good to be at home. So the weekend might have some misfortunes with taxis and hotels but for what its worth, I was so much happier being able to experience a good tournament and to share the weekend with my wonderful team mates. The ULTIMATE experience. Wish I had extra time to tell you more about it. All I can say is I just went home smiling. :-)

5 more days... before the big Inti-Taylor's Open Ultimate Frisbee tournament this Saturday at Nilai. This will be my big break after falling in love with this sport since I first played last year. Time to truly experience Ultimate Frisbee full on and meet players outside Sabah.

Went through some intensive training last weekend with my Borneo Bristleheads team mates. I still need to improve a lot. Borneo Bristleheads is the only team from Sabah joining the tournament. Tomorrow evening 6pm-8pm, some of us will be hitting 1st beach Tanjung Aru for some practice games. Do drop by and watch us play to see what Ultimate Frisbee is all about. Escape to Mantanani

Still hoping to get my long vacation soon. Till then, last week I managed to get a much needed one day retreat at Mantanani.

"Mantanani Islands are a group of three isolated islands located northwest of Kota Belud, about an hour’s drive from the state capital of Sabah, Kota Kinabalu. These islands are approximately 45 minutes boat ride by speedboat from the mainland.

Sad but true, I never really been for an island trip. Well I've been to one before long time ago but that trip doesn't really count coz I hardly did anything other than walking around. So this particular trip to Palm Beach at Mantanani Island means a lot to me. I was walking and running on the beautiful white sands of Mantanani. Even managed to play frisbee and volleyball with Ultimate Frisbee buddies Ritchie and Mark that by chance were in the same trip wtih me. Oh and how I enjoyed lying down on a hammock with the cool breeze passing around. What I really enjoyed the most during the trip was...

Snorkeling! I had phobia of drowning in the sea especially when I don't know how to swim(another sad but true case of me). But snorkeling got rid of the phobia for me. Which is important coz snorkeling and learning how to swim are what I want to achieve before completing one of my 2009 resolution of getting a diving license.

Anyway, I now proclaim snorkeling as my new found hobby. Its a lot of fun and at right spots, the view underwater is amazing.

Great moments indeed during the trip especially with my fellow staff Ellen and Marcella. Special thanks to Elaine Rajah, the Scuba Paradise representative that arranged the trip as part of promoting the island tour package at my workplace. Elaine, you're cool and I had a blast! Can't wait to return to Mantanani again one day.

Drag Me To Hell

Almost two weeks now and lots has happened especially last weekend. Will blog about that soon. Meanwhile, I find myself getting busier and busier each day with work and such. Luckily I managed to squeeze in some time with friends to watch a movie yesterday right after work. And the movie I watched is...

Yup, Drag Me To Hell. I'm not much of a horror movie fan and prefer to watch such movies on dvd at home then in the cinema. But I had to make an exception for Drag Me To Hell because it was directed by Sam Raimi. For those who don't know, Sam Raimi is also the director for cult horror classic Evil Dead trilogy and also worldwide blockbuster hit Spiderman trilogy. And it was his good work on the Evil Dead Trilogy that got me excited to watch Drag Me To Hell.

In summary, the movie is about how loan officer Christine Brown got cursed by a mysterious gypsy old woman by the name Mrs Ganush, after turning down her loan appeal. The curse brings out a demon called Lamia that will torment her life for 3 days before dragging her to hell. She now has to seek help from a seer as her only hope to get rid of the curse. Will Christine be able to do so before she goes to hell?

In general you would think its your typical horrow movie of a woman getting cursed, seeks help from others to get rid of it and then a happy ending after going through a lot of torment. The truth, yes thats the general idea of the movie. But as you watch the movie, you realise theres a big interesting twist and more importantly the horror sequences are nothing like what you've seen before. And just like the Evil Dead trilogy, theres a good dose of dark comedy thrown in as well.

Its been a while since I watched a really good horror movie. A recommended watch! A 4/5 from me.

Family Day
